Stephanie Sprenger is a board certified music therapist and early childhood educator. She graduated from Wartburg College in 2000 with a Bachelor Degree in music therapy and music education (BME). Stephanie spent a semester student teaching in both elementary school and middle school music classrooms, and then completed a six month internship as a music therapist working with adults with psychiatric diagnoses and developmental disabilities. Stephanie moved to the Denver metro area in January 2001 and began working as a music therapist with children who have a variety of special needs, as well as teaching early childhood music classes. Throughout her 18-year career, Stephanie has worked with children who have autism, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, speech and language delays, sensory integration dysfunction, and behavioral disorders. She has taught music classes to infants through kindergarteners for the past 18 years as well.
Stephanie is currently in private practice, teaching music classes at the Golden Community Center and the Westminster City Park Recreation Center. She also teaches music at Cornerstone Montessori and the Golden Community Center Preschool. Stephanie was excited to add two new vocal music classes for 5-7 and 8-12 year-old students at the Golden Community Center this year.
In addition to her music practice, Stephanie is a freelance writer, blogger, and producer of Boulder’s Listen To Your Mother Show. As co-founder and former Editor-in-Chief of The HerStories Project, she published four essay collections. The most recent one: So Glad They Told Me: Women Get Real About Motherhood, is filled with honest, relatable stories by 60 mothers with real, supportive advice for all stages of parenting. It’s available on Amazon as a paperback or e-book.
Stephanie’s work has been published on The Washington Post’s On Parenting, Brain, Child Magazine, the Huffington Post, Scary Mommy, Cosmopolitan.com, and more.
Stephanie’s personal blog is Mommy, for real, a candid glimpse at the imperfect reality of surviving the daily grind with kids. She is also a Rodan + Fields skin care consultant, and loves helping people feel comfortable in their skin– especially moms and tweens/teens dealing with acne! Stephanie lives in Colorado with her husband and two daughters. In her spare time, she enjoys singing (obviously!), practicing yoga, writing, reading, practicing martial arts with her 12-year-old, and snuggling on the couch.
